Garmin has quietly started rolling out a new major new update to many of its older smartwatches. Available across the Fenix 6 and Fenix 6 Pro series, among others, the update brings plenty of bug fixes to the table without any new features to speak of.
Smartwatch Wearable Software
Garmin has started rolling out a new stable update for the Fenix 6 and Fenix 6 Pro (curr. $369.99 - renewed on Amazon), which is available globally. For context, almost a year has passed since the company dropped System Software 27.00 for the same smartwatches.
As we covered last May, System Software resolved dozens of outstanding bugs while also adding support for a few new features. This time around, System Software 28.02 makes far fewer changes. In a forum post, Garmin confirms that the new update only introduces eight changes from System Software 27.00. Added to that, none of the improvements made could be described as new features.
Instead, Garmin has focused on bug fixes again. Please note that System Software 28.02 should be available to download on Enduro, Marq and Tactix Delta smartwatches, too. Please note that it could take Garmin a while before it sends notifications to every eligible smartwatch that System Software 28.02 is ready to download. The update's full changelog is as follows:
- Added a legal disclaimer tip message to the storm alert feature.
- Fixed a UI issue on the flight paths setup feature for MARQ Aviator.
- Fixed a possible issue with popularity data during routing and map drawing on Pro devices.
- Fixed an issue where elevation alert would constantly tone.
- Fixed an issued where notifications would sometimes be slow to pop up.
- Fixed an issue where loading certain courses would cause the device to shutdown.
- Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.
- CIQ bug fixes and improvements.
