J.A. WELTON SON, Nashville, TN STONE, George Age 82. Was born in Camden, TN on November 11, 1922. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1941. When the United States entered World War II that year, he joined the Army Air Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
After his service in World War II, he entered Vanderbilt University, earning a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1948. He was employed at Genesco by Maxey Jarman to be a pattern designer for the original General Shoe Company. As an Air Force reservist, George Stone was sent to Japan from 1951-1953 where he flew as a navigator in missions over Korea during the Korean Conflict. His life long love of flying led him to leadership in the Air Shows sponsored by the Rotary Club in the County area that provided entertainment and education to the public as well as fundraising for several charities in the mid state area.
George Stone was also a lifelong Boy Scout. As a young man he was a Scout who earned the Eagle Scout honor. He was Scout Master of Troops at Inglewood Baptist Church and Lincoya Hills Baptist Church. George Stone was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boys Scouts of America for his dedication and service to scouting and the principles it represents. George Stone will be very sadly missed by Eleanor, his loving wife of 60 years.
Also sadly mourning the loss of a very dear father are his three daughters, Jane Brissie, Carol Russell and Judy Stone and their spouses, George Brissie and Clifford Russell. TN LEADER, William Died on November 28, 2004 at Alive Hospice, Nashville, after a long fight with cancer He was 78. Mr. Leader was born in Springville, NY. He attended Harvard University, where he was a member of the Spee Club. Prior to graduation, he went on active duty with the United States Navy, where he served several tours of duty.
During the Korean conflict, he served with a fighter squadron aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton. He married Dorothy Roberts of New Albany, MS in 1949. After the war, they moved to Chattanooga where he managed the local branch of the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Later he formed and operated an independent insurance agency in Chattanooga.
From 1960 to 1964, he represented Hamilton County in the 82nd and 83rd General Assemblies. His avocation was politics and he worked in and managed several statewide election campaigns. He was an avid golfer and pilot. His passion was his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Mr.
Leader is survived by a sister, Marie Leader Clark of Cambria, CA; a brother, John Leader of Santa Barbara; three children, Dorothy Leader Hallman of Chattanooga, William D. Leader, Jr. of Nashville and Anne Leader Reasons of Des Moines. Retired United Methodist Minister of the Tennessee Conference, passed away on November 28, 2004 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Reverend Martin was a graduate of Hiwassee College, Emory and Henry College and received a Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University School of Divinity. Brother Martin served churches at Hiwassee and Addilynn Circuit, Elm Street, Gallatin First and Savannah First in the Tennessee Conference. He wrote the proposal, which was later adopted by the Tennessee Conference to ways to implement the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States and to lead us in abolishing any inequities that exist between the races in each of our The resolution did away with segregation by abolishing the Central Jurisdiction. Brother Christ-like ways led him through the trenches to the heights of humanity, where his love for God and others knew no bounds.
He loved preaching the gospel and being a pastor to everybody. As he dedicated his life to others, countless numbers were drawn to his shining spirit, beaming smile and outstretched arms of friendship. He was indeed, greatly loved by all who knew this kind who stood tall of character, faith and love. He was a and gentle man, a faithful servant whose life made a real difference.
